Staff Mobility for Teaching
Staff teaching mobility is the field of activity that allows a staff member who is responsible for teaching at a higher education institution (HEI) which holds ECHE (Erasmus Charter for Higher Education) to teach students at one of the partner universities in Programme Countries (Member States of the European Union, North Macedonia, Serbia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway).
The objectives of the teaching mobility are:
- To allow students who are not able to participate in a mobility scheme to benefit from the knowledge and expertise of academic staff from higher education institutions in other European countries
- To promote an exchange of expertise and experience on pedagogical methods
- To encourage higher education institutions to broaden and enrich the range and content of courses they offer.
For staff to participate in teaching mobility, they must be officially employed as teaching staff members on a full or part-time basis. The HEI where the mobility will take place must have an ECHE, and there must be an inter-institutional agreement between both HEIs. Staff teaching mobility does not support seminar and conference participation.
A teaching period between two Programme Countries must last a minimum of 2 days and a maximum of 2 months, excluding travelling time. The teaching activity must comprise a minimum of 8 hours per week (or any shorter period of stay) of actual teaching time.
To support more applicants, TEDU provides grants for a maximum of 7 days — subject to the available grants every year. The funded duration may change depending on the annual grant allocated to our institution. In most cases, the funded duration is limited to a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 working days, excluding travel days. The total funded duration is 7 days, including 5 working + 2 travel days.
- Applicants must be full or part-time TEDU staff members who are actively working at the time of application.
- Staff whose primary position is at a different institution but are working at TEDU under service procurement should apply for mobility at the institution where they are employed. Since there is no contract between TEDU and the staff employed via service procurement, these staff are not eligible for staff teaching mobility.
- Before the application date, an Erasmus+ agreement must be signed between TEDU and the institution to be visited by academic staff for teaching activities.
- Staff members should contact the host university in advance and receive a preliminary acceptance. An official e-mail acceptance will also be considered valid during the application. Invitation letters must be submitted on the letterhead of the other institution, signed/stamped, and include the planned mobility dates.
- Preliminary acceptance is not required at the Rectorate or Deanery level; it can be obtained from the Department where the activity will occur.
- Participation in seminars and conferences is not covered as part of the staff teaching mobility.
The Erasmus+ Programme is fully funded by the European Union; therefore, it is not part of the University's budget. The grant allocated for our mobility projects may change annually, and the funded quotas are also subject to the allocated mobility grants.

All staff member must submit their applications through the TURNAPortal, configured through e-Government. To access the portal, staff members must use their e-Government login credentials. They can then submit their applications to the available call for applications opened by TEDU.
Staff are responsible for providing the necessary information or documents during the application process:
- Invitation Letter
Staff members should contact the host university in advance and receive a preliminary acceptance. An official e-mail acceptance will also be considered valid during the application. Invitation letters must be submitted on the letterhead of the other institution, signed/stamped, and include the planned mobility dates.
- Mobility Agreement for Teaching
The Mobility Agreement defines the components of the teaching program to be followed at the host university. It must be filled out completely in accordance with the teaching program and signed by the participant, the sending institution, and the host institution. Staff teaching mobility is a day-based activity, and a grant payment is made accordingly. Therefore, the teaching program must be specified daily in the Mobility Agreement.
- Language Certificate
A valid foreign language certificate must be uploaded to the application portal if available. National/international language certificates accepted by ÖSYM and IELTS are accepted.
- Other Documents
Documents that may affect the weighted score distribution subject to evaluation or documents that form the basis for the request for additional grant support (see Evaluation Criteria and Weighted Scoring) must be uploaded to the TURNAPortal.
Staff members eligible for Erasmus+ teaching mobility may receive individual grant support to help cover some of their expenses. After the evaluations, all qualified staff on the main list will be funded by the Erasmus+ grant for their teaching period, depending on the available funded quotas.
The Programme Countries are categorized into three groups based on living standard levels. The Turkish National Agency determines daily individual support grants for each country group, as shown in the table below.

In addition to providing individual grant support to the staff, Erasmus+ offers travel support to cover expenses. The amount of travel support is determined using the Distance Calculator.

Grant payments are made for the days when an activity is performed or when it can be documented that the participant engaged in a type of mobility. If the mobility is not completed, no grant payment will be made. If a payment has already been made, the staff refunds the payment.
Payments are made in two instalments. The mobility period and grants are estimated before the mobility begins. 80% of the total grant amount specified in the grant agreement is paid to staff after document submission and visa approval. The remaining payment is made by recalculating the total grant according to the exact periods performed when the staff completes the mobility and returns, submits the necessary documents, and completes the participant report.
*Participants are encouraged to use low-emission modes of travel when going to the host university and returning home. Those who choose low-emission travel can apply for a Green Travel Grant. The majority of the journey must be made using low-emission means of transport, such as train, bus, or carpooling (two people or more). Staff who opt for green travel will receive up to four days of additional individual support to cover travel days for a return trip that takes longer than one day (two days before and two days after the mobility).
